North Sea Coalition - Codex

The "NSC" is an organisation founded to assure the cooperation between pirates of the North-Sea region. Together our primary goal is to work together and bind our strengths, for a single twig breaks easily, but a bundle of twigs is unbelievably strong.

Chapter I: Laws and agreements

To make sure the cooperation goes smooth and we brothers in arms are able to perform our duties and feed our families, we have the follow basic acts and laws.

Act I: You shall not pass on sensitive information given by a superior. If ignored, the sentence shall be decided by a direct superior, depending on the information it could mean a lifelong ban from the brotherhood.

Act II: You shall honor your superiors and brothers during all times. An act of disrespect can be solved among members, but if it escalates the older member is always right. Unless a superior thinks otherwise.

Act III: You shall always stand ready for your brothers and sisters. The basic foundation of our organisation depends on loyalty. Thus you are expected to act loyal and follow orders, unless you have legitimate reasons not to.

Chapter II: Hierarchy and structure

The North Sea Coalition's base structure and hierarchy are made too avoid conflicts and create ranks between members. It's important to know who are superior to who, so decisions are always made by the responsible person.

  • Admiral - The highest ranked officer, responsible to lead the coalition together with it's council.

  • Brigade commanders - Are the main leaders of their brigade and have a seat in the council. The very organisation is based on our brigade commanders and their brigades.

  • Lieutenant - The second in command of a brigade, if the brigade commander is unable to lead his brigade or be present in council his first lieutenant will take his role untill the commander is back.

  • Captain - The master of his own war cog or other war vessel. He sails in name of the NSC and is expected to respect the white/black list. They follow orders from their brigade commanders and the admiral.

  • Helsman - The master of his own ship, but is not allowed to sail a war cog or other war cog yet. This person has to show his loyalty to become a captain.

  • Quartermaster - The second in command on a ship. Has the same responsibilites as a captain or helmsman and looks after food storage, crew capacity and other logistics concerning the ship.

  • Crewman- The crewman is responsible to fill as crew on a ship and work together with his superior to achieve their goals. This is the core of the organisation and is valued highly.

  • Prospects - A prospect is a person who has yet to show himself worthy and loyal to the NSC. See it as a test period.

Chapter III: Promotions and loot

It's always possible to grow within the NSC. If superiors notice good potential and hard work with their crew it is possible to grant them a promotion ar a reward. Within brigades the promotions are indepent of eachother, the brigade commander decides wether he grants a promotion or not. It is also possible to grant a reward for good service. This could mean anything, a sum of money or a better ship. This too falls to the commander to decide.

An important thing in the codex of the NSC would be the agreements to dividing loot among eachother. The formula is simple, if there is loot gained on the land with a revolt or any kind of raid everyone gets a fair share. The most important thing is that in every case 10% of the loot goes directly to the treasury of the NSC. What remains will be split evenly among the crew(s). On sea however, it is for a captain to decide how the loot is split. In most cases they will respect the standards but they are free to decide how they want. However in this case again, the NSC should always get a 10% share.

Chapter IV: Definitions and explanations

A brigade is a seperate part of the North Sea Coalition. The commander of a brigade has a single vote in council and works together with other brigades and the admiral to coordinate attacks or actions against approved targets. It is possible to switch from a brigade if both brigade commanders agree. This is however a rare occasion and shouldn't be done easily.

The council exists of the admiral, the brigade commanders and if chosen their advisors. Each brigade has one single vote in the council, wich gives every brigade the same amount of power in the council. Decisions decided by the council should always be respected and followed, the same goes for the admiral.

The current ranks are based on naval combat, it's obvious that the NSC operates at sea and also on land. The ranks however are to be used on land as they are used on sea. The captain/helmsman is in charge of his crew with the quartermaster as his second officer.
